Hounslow and Richmond Community Healthcare NHS Trust’s (HRCH) bank immunisation team have been short-listed for this year’s prestigious Royal College of Nursing RCNi Awards which seek to celebrate excellence in nursing.
In recognition of the bank staff’s invaluable work, a bank nurse from the team will meet the RCNi judging panel on 23 March to showcase how the work undertaken by the team contributes to excellent clinical practice and high-quality service provided to patients.
Sheila Roberts, immunisation team lead, said: “I am delighted and very proud of the bank immunisations team and their commitment to HRCH.
She said: “We have a fantastic bank team and I’m very happy that their hard work has been confirmed by being short-listed for the RCNi Awards 2016. We value our bank staff for their diligence, commitment, care and competence.”
The immunisation team initially supported the school nurses with the immunisation programme and, because of their success, they now a standalone team which has been pivotal in increasing the uptake of vaccinations in Richmond schools.
The team have taken on the new Nasal flu programme and have reached high levels of uptake above 62% - representing performance approximately 20% above the uptake of childhood flu vaccinations in London.
HRCH won the NHS England bid for 'Richmond's school aged immunisations' programme in 2015 based on the fact that the service is run efficiently with bank staff, with NHS England referring to the team as 'setting the standard' with their approach.
