Smokers in Hounslow will have access to all the help and support they need to quit next month as the local stop smoking service gears up for Stoptober – the 28 day stop smoking challenge.

Stoptober is a month long campaign that encourages and supports smokers across the country to quit smoking for good. Throughout October, health advisors from One You Hounslow - the local stop smoking and health improvement service - will be out and about the borough, offering a range of drop-in support services to help smokers to kick the habit.

Research shows that if smokers can stop smoking for 28 days, they are five times more likely to stay smoke free for good. Stopping smoking is the best thing people can do for their health and for those around them.

With the launch of the local NHS health improvement service, One You Hounslow, there now is even more support to help people quit smoking for good - such as FREE one-to-one text and email support with a stop smoking specialist, weekly drop-in sessions and a range of medication available on prescription.

Councillor Kamaljit Kaur, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, Health Services and Public Health, Hounslow Council said: “Stoptober is the perfect opportunity for all those people who have not yet got around to quitting smoking, to do so now. In previous years, we have had a fantastic response from residents across the borough who sought help and advice during Stoptober and managed to give up successfully for good.

“The success of mass-quit attempts, such as Stoptober, show that more smokers stub out their cigarettes as part of a conscious decision to improve their health, let them be an inspiration to those who are just starting on that journey – you can do it!”
