Children's Asthma and Wheeze Community Service (Hounslow)

The Children's Asthma and Wheeze team provide face-to-face support, or telephone contact where appropriate, to children and young people under 19years of age - with asthma or viral induced wheeze (VIW).

This service aims to:

  • Improve the confidence and self-care skills of children and young people - and their parents/carers - to be able to manage their conditions effectively
  • Improve emotional and social well-being through the reduction of stress during periods of illness
  • Improve the co-ordination of local services to help patients manage their asthma or viral induced wheeze
  • Reduce the amount of time patients spend in acute/hospital settings

Referral information:

The new service is available for children and young people - aged 19 years old or under - who are registered with a Hounslow GP.

The service is only available for children and young people who have received emergency care as a result of asthma or wheeze; or who have received oral steroids from their GP within the previous 14 days.

The service is available: 

  • Monday to Friday: 09:00 – 17:00

Referrals to this service can only be made by a GP or qualified healthcare professional.

In order to qualify for this service, patients must: 

  1. Be a child or young person, aged between 0-19 years old
  2. Be registered with a Hounslow GP
  3. Have attended Accident & Emergency (A&E), an Urgent Care Centre (UCC), a Paediatric Assessment Unit (PAU), or inpatient unit - as a result of their asthma or viral induced wheeze
  4. GPs can also refer children and young people with asthma or wheeze who have been prescribed oral steroids within the previous 14 days.


Referral forms for healthcare professionals

Referrals should be submitted using the asthma referral form (Word) for non-SystmOne users and returned by email to: hrch.childrens-asthma@nhs.net.
