Our Contraception and Sexual Health (CaSH) service in the borough of Richmond provides:


Contraception services:

  • Emergency contraception up to 120 hours after unprotected sexual intercourse 

  • Condoms (the only methods of contraception that protect against STIs as well as unwanted pregnancy)   

  • Contraceptive pills  

  • Contraceptive injections   

  • Contraceptive implants   

  • Pregnancy testing   

  • Abortion Referrals   

  • Chlamydia & Gonorrhoea testing   

  • Diaphragms and caps   

  • Intra-Uterine Device (IUD)  

  • Intra-uterine System (IUS)  

  • IUD/IUS removals   

  • Contraceptive implants  

  • Implant removals

* We only test for Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea as part of the National Chlamydia Screening Program (NCSP) for 16-24 year olds and for clients having an IUD/IUS (coils) fitted. If you require a sexually transmitted infection (STI) check-up, please contact the GUM (Genito-urinary medicine) services listed below.

About our contraception and sexual health services in Richmond:

Nurse-led services

  • Contraceptive implant fitting, removal, or replacement - by appointment only: Wednesday evenings at Whitton Corner. Please phone Whitton Corner on 020 3458 5333 to book an appointment.

Emergency contraception: Where can I get it from?

Emergency contraception is available free of charge to young people from a range of local services, including pharmacies involved in local emergency contraception schemes. If you are over 16 you can, if you choose, also buy it from chemists. More information available on the Getting it On website

This service runs every Tuesday and Thursday, between 6pm-8pm at Teddington Health and Social Care Centre. Tel: 020 8614 5300.

Tuesdays, 6pm-8pm

This is a nurse-led service for people of all ages, offering FREE contraceptive and sexual health advice, including: 

  • Emergency contraception 
  • Pregnancy testing
  • Male and female condoms 
  • Contraceptive pills & injections
  • Abortion referrals
  • Cervical smears
  • Chlamydia and gonorrhoea testing   
  •  Smear tests are not routinely undertaken 


Thursdays, 6pm-8pm

The service on Thursday each week is doctor-led and offers the same as the nurse-led service (see above), but also specialist services that are not within the remit of the nurse: 

  • Diaphragms and caps  
  • Intra-Uterine Device (IUD) 
  • Intra-uterine System (IUS) 
  • IUD/IUS removals 
  • Contraceptive implants  
  • Implant removals - by appointment#
  • Smear tests are not routinely undertaken

This weekly nurse-led clinic for young people under the age of 21 offers:

  • Emergency contraception up to 72 hours after unprotected sexual intercourse
  • Condoms (the only methods of contraception that protect against STIs as well as unwanted pregnancy)
  • Contraceptive pills
  • Pregnancy testing
  • Abortion Referrals
  • Chlamydia & Gonorrhoea testing
  • Smear tests are not routinely undertaken

Referrals are not required for the majority of the contraception and sexual health services - which are walk-in, open access services.

However referrals are required for both the Psychosexual clinic & the appointment-only specialist clinic on Wednesday mornings, details below:

Women can self-refer to the Wednesday morning specialist clinic (IUD/IUS/Implants), but need to ring to make an appointment by calling the Contraceptive & Sexual Health Service at Teddington Health and Social Care Centre on: 020 8614 5300.

Women can also self-refer for implant replacement/removal but need to make an appointment:
